Our flooring professionals know hardwood well, and they also have an eye for design and can help you transform a room into a whole new space, even with just new flooring. Below Jim Aaron explains a little bit more about hardwood.
Solid vs. Engineered Hardwood
When it comes to hardwood, you have two main choices between solid and engineered.
Solid hardwood is a traditional wood option because it features a simple construction. They are made from a single plank of wood and coated with a protective finish. Engineered hardwood, however, features a special layered construction making them more stable. Solid hardwood should be installed on and above grade in places such as bedrooms and living rooms. Engineered hardwood can be installed on every level of your home, but still needs to be out of areas with high moisture.
Where can Hardwood be Installed?
Hardwood is best-suited for areas of your home that are on or above grade. When properly maintained, hardwood can last for years in your home. Cleaning your hardwood floor is simple, but it does require regular maintenance. Both solid and engineered hardwood can be refinished to increase their life cycle in your home.
Commonly you can find hardwood installed in places like bedrooms, living rooms, dens and home offices. Engineered hardwood’s special construction even allows you to install them in finished basements that have moisture under control.
