Did you know wool is not the only natural fiber used to make carpets and rugs? Carpets and rugs that are made from natural fibers are considered eco-friendly. These fibers, including sisal, jute, silk, and cotton, do not require any special treatments, so they help maintain a clean and healthy living environment.
Many hardwood floors are friendly to the environment because they can be made from sustainable and even recycled wood. However, bamboo flooring and cork flooring are even friendlier to the environment. Bamboo, for example, is one of the fastest growing plants, so it typically has about 25x the yield of hardwood. In addition, cork flooring is certainly the most eco-friendly wood flooring option because it is made only from the bark of the tree.
Most resilient flooring options such as luxury vinyl flooring are eco-friendly because they do not require any natural resources. Luxury vinyl planks, for example, do not require any real wood. Also, almost all resilient floors do not have any harmful chemicals on the surface, so they, like natural fiber carpets, contribute to a healthier environment.
